Our Progress In Raising Domestic Violence Awareness

Remedies Renewing Lives

  • Donated $10,000 to Remedies which shelters women and children and works to end domestic violence.

  • Partnered with Remedies for their annual golf play day, and helped increase their profits over $15,000 over previous years.

  • Decorated and furnished a room in Amanda’s name at Remedies new location and purchased items for their day room.

  • Brought Victoria Crompton to the Remedies’ Ball. Victoria told the story of her daughter Jenny, whose ex-boyfriend murdered her when she was just 15. Teachers later shared they had never seen students so affected by a speaker and so eager to continue the conversation.

  • Partnering with Remedies, provided funding for a “Teen dating Violence Awareness Month” campaign in February and Domestic Violence Awareness Month campaign in October. Outreach includes billboards, social ads, bus ads and public services announcements.

  • Donate items for women and children at the shelter and receiving services for Christmas gifts.

Family Peace Center

  • Donated funds towards the City of Rockford Mayor’s Office Domestic Violence Initiative to set up the Family Justice center in Rockford.

  • In partnership with the Family Peace Center, we’ve donated funding for “Camp Hope’ which aims to help Rockford youth heal from trauma caused by domestic violence. Rockford police data shows that 75% of juvenile offenders have either witnessed or been victims of domestic violence. Without the trauma being processed or healed it is likely they will repeat the cycle.

  • Provided snacks and beverages for Survivor’s group meetings and Barber Shop event.

  • Provided partial funding for daycare services for survivors seeking services at the Family Peace Center.

  • Donated Christmas gifts for children of survivors.

Roosevelt Alternative High School

  • Partnered in an all-student assembly addressing teen dating violence with speakers from Rockford Police Department and the Amanda Reed Memorial, awarding prizes for writing and art contests.

  • Donated funding for a mentoring program,

  • Presented the Escalation Workshop to students and staff.

Rock Valley College

  • A displayed was set up in the student center one week in October for Domestic Violence Awareness Month telling Amanda’s story and self & self defense classes were provided to the students and faculty.

Rockford University

  • Presented the Escalation Workshop to all students athletes and coaches for two years. The workshop raises awareness about the warning signs of abuse. The workshop consists of a 40-minute film followed by a guided discussion.

Indiana State University

  • Partnered with Indiana State women’s soccer team, which one of Amanda’s sisters played soccer for, recognizing a game in October for domestic violence awareness. Diane gave a speech at half-time and all proceeds were donated to local shelter in Terre Haute, Indiana.

Boylan Catholic High School

  • Victoria Crompton spoke at an all-school assembly telling the story of her daughter Jenny, whose ex-boyfriend murdered her when she was just 15. Several teachers shared they had never seen students so impacted by a speaker and so eager to continue the conversation.

  • Presented Escalation Workshops to students.

Harlem High School

  • Participated at the Harlem High School Emotional Wellness event, presenting a short video about the warning signs of an unhealthy relationship and Q&A session with a Sgt. in the Rockford Police Department.

Other Area Schools

  • Purple Ribbon Campaign in October for Domestic Violence Awareness Month and Orange Campaign in February for Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month.

Children’s Safe Harbor

  • Donated $4,000 to Children’s Safe Harbor, which gives a safe, neutral visitation exchange for families in custody issues.

  • Funded a 6 week pilot program support group for survivors “Healing Together”, a children’s group simultaneously was also offered with snacks and activities. After the success of the pilot program, an 8-week session was funded.

Miscellaneous

  • Established a scholarship at the Community Foundation of Northern Illinois in Amanda’s name to an area high school senior who demonstrates an understanding of the need to end domestic violence through volunteering, advocacy projects and other activities.

  • Donated prize money to the Rockford Police Department’s Annual Domestic Violence Art Contest.

  • In partnership with Swedish American Health Foundation, we sponsored the Men Stopping Violence administered through Rockford Reach Out Ministries in the Winnebago County Jail.

  • Provided more than 300 young girls and women with self-defense classes.

Awards for our Work in the Community

  • Received the 13th Annual Shining the Light on Domestic Violence aware honoring The Amanda Reed Memorial for work in the community addressing domestic violence.

  • Received the Eagle Award from radio station 95.3 The Bull, horning The Amanda Reed Memorial for our work in the community to educate and bring awareness about teen dating and domestic violence.
